Help CatholicCare chaplains bring comfort, faith and hope to the sick and isolated

PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY TO THE BISHOP'S GOOD SAMARITAN APPEAL.

Like the Good Samaritan, chaplains are called to be beacons of love and hope.

In hospitals and prisons throughout Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains, CatholicCare chaplains provide spiritual, sacramental and emotional support. They accompany and minister to people facing serious or life-threatening health conditions, and those in need of prayer, companionship and a listening ear.

“Through our ministry, people know that there is someone who is always ready to be there with them, whenever they need it. In this way, I am representing God for them, and for me that is the meaning of my chaplaincy.”

“We don’t have a lot of help because the volunteers are not allowed to come, and we have to wear full protective gear all day. But patients are so appreciative of us visiting them, giving them Holy Communion and chatting with them, especially during the coronavirus pandemic when they are restricted to one visitor a day.”

- Father Domingo, CatholicCare Chaplain

You can help carry on the work of Jesus in the footsteps of the Good Samaritan

We all experience difficult times in our lives that are distressing, especially if they arise from illness or the loss of our loved ones. Finding the strength, hope and faith we need to get through dark times, immense grief and suffering, can be challenging.

Pope Francis has invited us to pray for and devote special attention to the sick and to those who provide them with assistance. Just as the Good Samaritan came to the aid of the man left half-dead by the side of the road and gave him comfort and a place to recover, CatholicCare chaplains help people in their time of need.

We can all be Good Samaritans by supporting our chaplains as disciples of Jesus Christ, providing spiritual, emotional and sacramental support to the sick and the dying, the elderly and those in need.

Your compassionate gift and prayers today will support CatholicCare chaplains to carry on the work of Jesus in the footsteps of the Good Samaritan. Thank you for accompanying them on their journey.
